Renowned as both a centenarian and a champion runner, he claimed the UK and world records for his runs in the over-ninety category. Impressively, he completed the 2003 Waterfront Marathon Toronto in just over five and a half hours and ran the same year of the London Marathon in just six hours and two minutes.
He ran in his last race, the 2013 Hong Kong Marathon, when he was 101 years old, finishing in just under an hour and a half.
