Young / Before famous

  • As a child, he followed his father to Hung Yen and studied Chinese characters.
  • From 1920 - 1929, he moved to study French in Hanoi, passed the French Baccalaureate at the age of 27.
  • From 1929 - 1940, he collaborated with many newspapers Contemporaneous newspapers and magazines such as French-Vietnamese, Literary, Nhat Tan, Semi-monthly Universal, Trung Bac Tan Van, Song Huong.... He was also the Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi's weekly newspaper Tan Van. , and a proponent of establishing Hanoi Publishing House.
  • In 1945, he participated in the General Uprising. With the success of the August Revolution, Vu Ngoc Phan collaborated with the Pioneer magazine of the National Salvation Culture Association. After that, he held the following positions: Vice Chairman of the Northern Vietnam Cultural Union (December 1945); General Secretary of the National Cultural Conference Advocacy Committee (November 1946); Standing member of the Inter-regional Resistance Cultural Union IV (1947-1951); Member of the Research Committee of Literature and History (1951-1953).
  • After 1954, he continued to work at the Department of Literature and History.
  • In 1959, the Literary Group of the Research Department of Literature and History separated to establish the Institute of Literature, Vu Ngoc Phan returned to work at the Institute and became the head of the folklore group (now the Department of Literature). Folklore and Literature Office of Ethnic Minorities) of the Institute of Literature. After that, he was elected General Secretary, in charge of the Folklore Association at the 1st Folklore Congress in 1966.
