Who is DJ Scott La Rock?
Best remembered for his work with the New York-based hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions, this DJ and music producer was shot and killed at the age of twenty-five. His first album, Criminal Minded (released 1987), quickly became a hip-hop classic.
His tragic death spurred Stop rap artists to sponsor violent movements.

He played basketball at Castleton State College in Vermont and worked a side job as a Friday night DJ at a local bar. After graduating from college, he became a social worker in New York by day and a hip-hop DJ by night.

Born Scott Monroe Sterling, he grew up in the Bronx borough of New York City, the son of city employee Carolyn Morant. He later fathered a child, Scott Sterling, Jr.
