Who is Human rights activist Hoang Chi Phong?
Hoang Chi Phong or Joshua Wong, is a Hong Kong student politician who is the Secretary General of the Demosistō democratic party. Previously, Hoang Chi Phong was the one who convened and founded the Hong Kong student activist group private dynasty. He first became known worldwide for his participation in the 2014 Hong Kong protests, and his pivotal role in the Umbrella Movement was featured in TIME listed to Most Influential People of 2014. In addition, Hoang Chi Phong was also nominated in the category Character of the Year 2014. Fortune magazine also named him one of the "world's greatest leaders" in 2015, and was nominated for the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.
The first protest that Hoang Chi Phong participated in was the 2010 anti-high-speed rail protest. On May 29, 2011, he and his classmate, Ivan Lam Long-yin, founded Practitioners. Fourth Dynasty - a student activist group. This group begins with simple means of protest. Developing over time, Hoang Chi Phong's group has grown in size and influence. In 2012, this group organized a political protest with a scale of 100,000 people, it was this protest that made Chi Phong more known to the international society.
June 2014, Doc Do The government has drafted a plan to reform Hong Kong's electoral system to promote universal suffrage, under the one country, two systems policy. Hoang Chi Phong's group strongly supported the inclusion of a citizen nomination in the 2017 Hong Kong Representative election. He has stood as a student leader and has started a class strike in the elections. Hong Kong students to send a pro-democracy message to Beijing. On September 27, 2014, Hoang Chi Phong was one of 78 people arrested by police while participating in a pro-democracy protest, after hundreds of students occupied the City Square in front of the Complex. Unlike other protesters, only in response to a court order obtained from the text of habeas corpus, Hoang Chi Phong was released by the police, after only 46 hours of detention.

On November 27, 2014, Hoang Chi Phong was charged with the crime of obstructing a bailiff from clearing one of the three protest areas in Hong Kong. His lawyer has described the allegation as politically motivated. He was banned from entering the Mong Kok area, one of the sites occupied by protesters, as one of the conditions for his bail. He claimed that the police beat him and intentionally injured his groin area when he was arrested, moreover, they mocked and cursed at him while he was in custody.

After Hoang Chi Phong appeared at the Cuu Long City First Instance Court on November 27, 2014, he was attacked by two bad guys who threw eggs at him. These two were arrested and each fined $3,000 in August 2015. These sentences, after going through the prosecutor's review process, were later increased to two weeks in prison.

On December 2nd/ In 2014, he and two other students began an indefinite hunger strike to demand new negotiations with the Hong Kong government. He decided to end his hunger strike after 4 days with medical advice.

2019 was a year of great upheaval in Hong Kong. On May 16, 2019, Hoang Chi Phong was sentenced to 2 months in prison for participating in the Umbrella event in Mong Kok on November 16, 2014. On June 17, 2019, he was released on bail. This timing coincides with the anti-extradition bill protests in Hong Kong are high. After his release, he condemned the Hong Kong police's repression of protesters. He also believes that the draft extradition law is supporting Beijing, and calls for the resignation of Hong Kong's Chief Representative Carrie Lam. On August 29, 2019, Hoang Chi Phong was again arrested, one day before another planned protest without the city's approval. In September 2019, he met with the German Foreign Minister. China's Foreign Ministry called his move disrespectful to China's sovereignty, and a move to interfere in China's internal affairs.

Despite its relatively young age, Hoang Chi Phong is an influential figure not only in Hong Kong, but also inspires many young generations around the world. On February 1, 2018, he and the entire Umbrella movement were joined by a bipartisan group of US lawmakers, led by the Chairman of China's National Assembly Executive Committee (CECC) US Senator Marco Rubio and co-chair of the United States Representative Chris Smith nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.
