Kenneth Tomlinson began her journalism career in 1965 when she became a reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In 1968, he became an employee of Digest Reader in the Washington office, he also worked as a reporter during the Vietnam War. During his time in Vietnam, he published the book POW, a history of American POWs during the Vietnam War.
In 1977 he moved to the Paris office of Digest, which focused on issues and events in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and worked there until 1978.
In September 1982, he was nominated by President Reagan to become the 4th Director of Radio Voice of America. He spoke in the United States and worked until August 1984. He then returned to work as an editor for Digest Reader and became editor of the paper in 1989. During that time, in October 1986, he was appointed continued to be appointed to the National Committee on Library and Information Science until 1987. Thereafter, he was nominated by President Reagan to the International Board of Broadcasting (BIB) and worked there for 7 years. In 1996, he retired from the Digest Reader and moved to Virginia. There, he was promoted to president and director of the National Library of Sporting in Middleburg, Virginia; then 3 years later he was again appointed as Chairman of the CPB Council of President George W. Bush for a 2-year term. However, during his tenure he violated federal law and private corporation law in raising $5,000,000,000 to underwrite the journal Editorial Report, a PBS program. by the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. This led to him resigning and being replaced by Cheryl Halpern.

Kenneth Tomlinson is a native of Grayson County, Virginia. In 1975, he married Rebecca Moore, a former congressional aide to Bill Stuckey and Sonny Montgomery. After their marriage they had two sons and lived together at Springbrook Farm in Fauquier County, Virginia. His first son William M. Tomlinson graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2000, and is now a sports producer for ESP News. His second son is Lucas Y. Tomlinson he is a lieutenant in the United States Navy, in 2001 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, now he is a military consultant. for Booz Allen in Washington, DC.
