He has won Tony Awards for his cast of High Button Shoes, West Side Footwear, and for directing Fiddler on the Roof and Jerome Robbins' Broadway. He was inducted into the National Museum of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt's Whitney Hall of Fame Dance in 1989 and a documentary about his life called Something Dance About which aired on PBS in 2009.
