Poet Y Nhi real name is Hoang Thi Y Nhi, born in Hoi An town, Quang Nam province, in a family have a tradition of Confucianism. She grew up in Hanoi and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Literature, Hanoi University in 1968.
She is one of the famous modern female poets in Vietnam. Her poetry has been translated into many languages and is considered by Western poets as one of the pioneering contemporary Vietnamese poets after Doi Moi.
Y Nhi's poetry is simple but full of wisdom, the tone of the poem is quiet, thoughtful, earnest but bitter. With philosophical language, Y Nhi's poetry is the deep deposit of a heart that never ceases to be anxious on the journey to find the meaning of life. She has also written a number of very unique short stories and is one of the few female poets that is widely accepted by the public. She was also an avid football fan (short story: Roy Evan left Liverpool).
She used to be a journalist and editor at the Southern Branch Publishing House of the Writers' Association. She was a member of the Vietnam Writers' Association until 2002. Currently she lives and writes in Ho Chi Minh City a>.

Poet Y Nhi is the eldest daughter of Professor Hoang Chau Ky, a revolutionary activist and a researcher on tuong art.
She married Professor Nguyen Loc, he is also a poet. studied tuong and was one of the founders of Van Hien University.
