American zoology who studied groups of gorillas in Rwanda and was an anti-poaching advocate. Her 1983 book, Gorillas in the Mist, sheds light on mountain gorillas at the Karisoke Research Center.
Her murder in 1985 remains unsolved but people who believe she was killed see her as an obstacle to the tourist and financial exploitation of the gorillas.
