Who is Vietnam War Hero Le Van Phong?
Le Van Phong is a hero of the Vietnam War and a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He was the deputy political officer of the 516th Infantry Battalion, Central South Front.
In 1960, he joined the revolutionary ranks. He participated in 121 big and small battles, was seriously injured 5 times but still decided not to leave the battlefield. On April 13, 1966, he led his company to attack the puppet training school in Phu Hung, destroying 5 enemy companies and collecting many weapons. In October 1966, his unit was ordered to march to Binh Khanh when in the middle of the road encountered enemy troops who were sweeping, their artillery fired fiercely to clear the way for their troops to enter. Although our fortifications were flooded and could not be contacted, he always encouraged the soldiers to fight. After having repelled 6 waves of the enemy's attacks and killed many enemies, when he was ordered to withdraw, he was able to bring the soldiers of his unit out of the battlefield safely.
In the spring of 1968, in a battle General offensive, leading the unit to fight 4 enemy purposes in the city Ben Tre. His unit destroyed each resistance, captured the Kim Sat camp, the headquarters of the enemy's sub-zone, seized and destroyed 1,000 guns of all kinds.
November 1968, American troops and puppet troops sent 9 battalions and 20 companies along with many warships to sweep into the liberated areas of Son Phu and Giong Trom. He led to break 20 waves of enemy attacks, blocked the way of 12 M113 vehicles to prevent them from approaching our battlefield, made a great contribution with the battalion to destroy 500 enemy troops, still maintaining the battlefield.
Le Van Office was awarded 1 first-class and second-class liberation medals and 2 third-class liberation medals by the State.
On September 5, 1970, Le Van Office was conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.
