Who is Professor Rainer Weiss?
Rainer Weiss is a German-American physicist. He is known for his great contributions in the field of astrophysics and astrophysics. It was he who invented the laser interferometer gravitational wave probe that is the basis of interferometer gravitational wave measurement stations such as LIGO, GEO600 or VIRGO. He is one of only three physicists to receive the prestigious 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for his decisive contributions to LIGO and the observation of gravitational waves.” The other two physicists are named Kip Thorne and Barry Barish.
Rainer Weiss has been involved in two basic areas of physics research from birth to formation: studying the characteristics of the cosmic microwave background radiation, and direct measurement of gravitational waves by means of interference.
He made pioneering measurements of the spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation, and was later co-founder and scientific advisor of NASA's COBE microwave probe project In 2006, along with John C. Mather, he and the COBE research team received the Gruber Prize for Cosmology.
Weiss is the inventor of the interference method. laser for direct measurement of gravitational waves, and co-founder of the LIGO gravitational wave observatory, a t project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). These challenging efforts in experimental science are aimed at gaining important insights into physics at the range of the extremely strong gravitational fields in the Universe. In 2007, along with Ronald Drever, he was awarded the Einstein Prize for his contributions to the measurement of gravitational waves.
February 11, 2016, he was one of the scientists of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration Group. Explained during the announcement that the LIGO Science Collaboration Group detected and directly measured gravitational waves that were detected by the two LIGO observatories on September 14, 2015. After this event, he along with Ronald Drever and Kip Thorne have received the Breakthrough Prizes in Fundamental Physics, the Gruber Prize for Cosmology and the Shaw Prize.
For their contributions to the space sciences. Rainer Weiss deserves prestigious awards:

Rainer Weiss is the son of Gertrude Loesner and Frederick A. Weiss. His mother was an actress, and his father was a German neurologist and psychoanalyst. However, his father was arrested by the Nazis for being a member of the Communist Party. Therefore, his family had to live and apply for a visa in the United States. From there he spent his youth in New York City.
