Jazz trumpet player and singer who used his music to bring blacks and whites together and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1968. He is best known as a member of Johnny Gertze, First major African jazz group to record an LP.
His song "Grass in the Grass" has sold over four million copies in the United States.

His first trumpet was a gift from the Anti-apartheid Chaplain St. Peter of Archbishop Trevor Huddleston. He was in the orchestra for "King Kong", the first stage musical to experience widespread success in South Africa.
