Who is Novelist Patricia McKissack?
Known best for her contributions to the historical fiction series Dear America, she also wrote part of the Royal Diaries Scholastic Press series. Between 1990 and 1995, she received three Scott King Awards Coretta and was a finalist for the prestigious Newbery Medal.
She has written several personal childhood memoirs, including The Dark Thirty and Somewhere Special.
Known best for her contributions to the historical fiction series Dear America, she also wrote part of the Royal Diaries Scholastic Press series. Between 1990 and 1995, she received three Scott King Awards Coretta and was a finalist for the prestigious Newbery Medal.

After attending Tennessee State University, she briefly worked as a high school teacher and went on to publish a 1984 biography of her favorite poet, Paul Lawrence Dunbar.
Her husband, United States Water-turned-American. Army engineer Frederick McKissack, collaborated with her on a youth-oriented series on biographies of famous African-Americans.
