Pete Williams grew up in Casper in 1970, graduating from Natrona Country High School. In 1974, Williams graduated from Stanford University and upon graduation began his career at local news programs and the Casper, Wyoming KTWO television and radio stations. From 1985 to 1986, he was the project director of Wyoming Future; until 1986, he became press secretary for the US government and was assistant secretary of defense for public affairs under the George HW Bush administration in 1989.
In 1993, after After leaving the Department of Defense, he became a justice correspondent for NBC news agency reporting from the US Department of Justice and the US Supreme Court.
