After the country was completely liberated, he returned to work at the New Works Publishing House (now the Writers' Association Publishing House).
He died in 1991 in Hanoi.

- In 1971, Tran Vu Mai volunteered to work on the battlefield after graduating from university. He was a reporter for the Liberation Arts magazine of Zone V under the Propaganda Department of Zone V Party Committee. During those years, he often stayed in the southernmost region of Central Vietnam and wrote many poems about the war here.
- At the end of the war, he stayed Da Nang, then was sent to Phu Khanh to join the city Phu Khanh Arts Association.
- In 1980, he returned to the North, working at New Works Publishing House - Vietnam Writers Association.
